Musee du Louvre – Paris, France

Outside the “Musee du Louvre“, Paris, France

In November 2010, my mother and I travelled to Paris. Two rural residents of a village with 162 residents, hit the big city which has a population of 12 million people in the metropolitan area.

One of the first places we ventured was the Musee du Louvre. Below is an image of the dining room of Napoleon’s Apartments. The Richelieu Wing of the Louvre Museum features a  “Napoleon’s Apartments”. My mother and I were amazed by the lavish luxury enjoyed by Napoleon. The high vaulted ceilings, gold embellishments, fine pieces of art and unique pieces of French furniture.

We walked for hours at this museum and certainly was unable to see the many impressive works of art. There are many hallways of paintings from French, Italian, Spanish and other world reknown painters. We enjoyed the section on Greek, Egyptian and Iranian  pieces as well. Another highlight was seeing the Mona Lisa. After much viewing we stopped for lunch at the museum cafe.

You can avoid traffic by getting an early start. You can avoid waiting in line for tickets by using the automatic ticket machines in the lobby. As well it is best to do your research. Find out in advance what are key areas of culture you are interested. You could spend hours in just one wing. We had a plan and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing wonders of the Louvre before spending the afternoon outside breathing in more of the Parisian lifestyle.
