Wind Power….Why Not?

During a visit to L’anse Aux Meadows, this photo of an overworked Canadian flag was found. It clearly illustrates the tremendous impact the wind has on that area. In Conche and Englee, I have similar photos of worn out flags by wind. As well, in my own community in the Straits region – flags are replaced on a regular basis due to the consistent amount of wind. So I ask, wind power? Why not?

  1. Regarding Wind Energy development:
Newfoundland and Labrador has some of the best most reliable wind energy in North America. See the Canadian Wind Energy Atlas online. What is needed to make this accessible so people can generate their own energy and sell the surplus back to the electricity grid is Feed In Tariff (FIT) legislation. Information about FIT legislation can be found on the Ontario Green Economy and Green Energy website or the Pembina Institute website. Also another very good wind energy website is Paul Gipe’s Wind-Works.org. This is practical, affordable, green renewable energy for Newfoundland and Labrador in the 21st century. Thank you
