Nominate someone for Newfoundland & Labrador’s Highest Honour

The Order of Newfoundland & Labrador is the highest Honour of the Province.

The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador was established and given Royal Assent in 2001. The Order is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents.

In 2012, Nurse Janet Cox, employed at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony received this honour. She established a life saving screening program for colon cancer patients that moved studies from clinical research to coordinated leading clinical care that has helped hundreds of people and their families. A province-wide program was established in 2010 that was modeled from her program. I had the pleasure of meeting this remarkable woman, who has given so much in her more than 40 year career and only hope that research and consultation that was established at Curtis Memorial Hospital remain and further research projects be undertaken. We have incredible assets on the Great Northern Peninsula, none greater than the people and their contributions to society. You have until January 31, 2013 to nominate an individual for our Province’s Highest Honour. As the MHA for the Straits-White Bay North I can think of a number of individuals who have tirelessly contributed in our region and province striving to improve the lives, social programs and economy. You are certainly worthy. I encourage you to take time to nominate that someone who should be recognized for their service and contributions of making life better for all Newfoundlanders & Labradorians.

    1. We were very fortunate to have Nurse Janet Cox of St. Anthony receive this designation in 2012. I know we have so many individuals that are deserving of the Order of NL. I hope people nominate them.
