St. Genevieve River Walking Trail is definitely a favourite spot for anglers. As you walk along the trail you can watch salmon fishers casting their rods. This river is loved by many and there are fond memories made along this route as children learn to cast and get hooked on fishing with a parent, grandparent or loved one.
There is a dedicated parking lot off Route 430 (Viking Trail) south of the St. Genevieve River Bridge on the right side. At the beginning of the trail you will see a bird house hand painted with salmon designs. The area could have some visual signage promoting the trail and some directional signage along the way.
The trail is follows the river, includes some forested and wetland areas and there are some boardwalk and bridges.
The trail is a nice walk and likely only a couple of kilometres return. A wonderful place to enjoy nature and do some salmon fishing if so inclined. This little gem of a trail is very close to the Genevieve Bay Inn, which also has a restaurant named Hungary’s and a bar named Thirsty’s.
Add this walking trail to your to do list this summer season when visiting the Great Northern Peninsula. You won’t be disappointed.
