The majestic caribou, resemble the reindeer of the North. We often say that Santa’s reindeer are back in time for the holidays!
They are fixtures on the Great Northern Peninsula, especially near the St. Anthony airport via the Viking Trail highway and en route to Main Brook via Grenfell Drive. Many visitors enjoy capturing images of these beautiful creatures when visiting our beautiful province. However, they can create a traffic jam, so use caution when driving in these areas as they can block the roads.
They are grazing in their small herds, but on my recent trip there were hundreds visible. I always have to stop and take a few photos.
Be sure to plan your trip to the Viking Trail in hopes to get a glimpse of these natural beauties.
Check out www.vikingtrail.org for accommodations, cuisine and experiences along the way!
